Look at the humility of God: arms stretched out upon the holy cross, so vulnerable is He, the God-Man completely and utterly defenseless; any blow, any hit, any insult, any rejection, anything the enemy wishes to do to attack Him, that He can literally do nothing to defend Himself, but turn His gaze towards the Father’s Providence.
The good thief mirrors His actions: in the same position, and covered in shame, just as the Lord Himself became our shame, the good thief, St. Discimus, turns his gaze towards Jesus: he looks at Jesus and trusts the Divine Will for his soul.
The other thief rejects Jesus, he turns away and his eyes are thus plucked out…” for whatever causes you to sin, pluck it out…cut it off.” He chooses himself over Jesus. In his insecurity because of his shame, he hates himself and so he hates Jesus. He looks away.
So when we experience our shamefulness for past sins, and especially these, come before Jesus, look at Him. Resist the urge to turn away and be overcome by your own insecurity. Rather in your vulnerability, in this extreme humility, look at Jesus.
The other night, I went outside, gazed at the stars and I worshiped the Triune God. That night in my sleep, I saw the Divine Child Jesus. He had dirty blonde curly hair. He wore a tan tunic with a belt. He was sitting on a bench at first in some kind of room from a long time ago. There were other household items around. He stood up and then He gave me a blessing. From His blessing, I felt a strong sensation of Love overcome me. And then I awoke.
